Guaria morada
The Guaria morada is a flower that grows on trees and rocks in the rainforest. It is also the national flower of Costa Rica. It makes an appearance on the 'Cinco Colones' bill of Costa Rica. The Guaria morada was discovered by Mr. George Ure Skinner in Guatemala. The Guaria morada blooms in February and March, creating light purple flowers with tints of red as well. These flowers are commonly used as Lent decorations because of their coloring. The flower is so popular, in fact, that it has a song for it. One of the verses is ' On the river banks, decorating the ravines. Where the mountains are cold and are the icy waters', referring to the wide array of places that the flower can grow. Although they can grow in many different forest environments, the plants are rarely wild. The remaining Guaria moradas are found in farms across Costa Rica.
